zaugg: on the edge of the open plain, with distant views towards the mountains, a studio was designed for the sculptor urs zaugg. the low, elongated volume settles quietly into the landscape, reading as a precise horizontal presence. a continuous roof light brings soft and even working light deep into the interior, shaping a calm spatial atmosphere for concentration and making the sculptures perceptible throughout the day. generous overhangs and recessed openings extend the workspace outward, creating sheltered zones between inside and outside. the material palette follows the physical logic of sculptural practice. in-situ concrete, galvanized metal and heavy textile curtains absorb traces of weather, use and time. the forecourt remains a compacted gravel field, recording movement and temporary occupation. the studio acts as a quiet framework for making, a place where mass, landscape and time enter into dialogue.
